Sheep Falls

Route Details: If you are looking for a great way to spend a half day SW of Calgary this route is for you with some twisty roads and spectacular views/stops along the way.

Bragg Creek is a great starting point since it has some good coffee shops and restaurants to grab something before heading out or while waiting for your riding group to show up and also has gas stations in case you need a top up. Head south out of town on 22 and a quick jog onto 762 that will lead you back onto 22 and into Turner Valley. From there head west on 546 past campgrounds, parks and day use areas (with plenty of pull outs to get some awesome photos) until reaching the turn-around loop at the very end of the highway where you can stop for a break or retrace you route back to the Sheep River Falls parking lot which is safer entered heading east rather than across traffic while heading west on this busy road. This area is great for a picnic lunch. Once you have taken in your fill of the beauty of the area return to Turner Valley/ Black Diamond for lunch/refreshments if you are in the mood and didn’t take lunch to the falls. There are plenty of places to choose from including my favorites, Foothills Pizza and Marv's Classic Soda Shop. And then there is one last must see on this route which is the ‘Big Rock’ Okotoks Erratic for some great pics and some local geographic history. Once you arrive at the end in Okotoks you have many great choices for refreshments or meals or a fuel stop before heading home.

Natural Highlights: Sheep Falls, Okotoks Erratic Hwy 762 and 546/Sheep River RD

Local Businesses: Foothills Pizza and Pasta (Diamond Valley), Mabel and Marie’s (Bragg Creek)

KM/Hours of Riding: 152km, 2 hours riding
