Victoria Trail (gravel)

Route Details: This stretch of gravel road meanders along the bank of the North Saskatchewan River and although it’s quite short is full of surprises from days gone past and picturesque stops that can easily take up a good part of a day.

This narrow gravel track follows along the north side of the river through rich farmland and deciduous forest on nearly the same path horses and wagons would have taken as the RCMP and settlers moved into this area in the early days. There are many great pull outs and places to stop and check out historic sites and take some really great photos. The road doesn’t see a lot of traffic but we aware rounding bends and at intersections since the road is quite narrow and has some blind corners. It doesn’t matter which direction you choose to take and as far as lunch or afternoon refreshments go there isn’t anything directly on the route but a quick detour to Waskatenau or to Smoky Lake gives you some really awesome options for food and drinks. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time for the many stops you will want to make, especially on a sunny mid-summer day.

Highlights: North Saskatchewan River, House in the MIddle of the Road, RCMP Memorial, Metis Crossing

Local Businesses: T&T Iron Horse Cafe (Waskatenau), Betsy's Burger Shack (Smoky Lake), Old Fashioned Bread Bakery (Smoky Lake), Pub 28 (Smoky Lake), 6 Pak Saloon (Fort Sask)
